Midwifery in Somalia
« on: May 01, 2008, 05:46:58 PM »
Salaam. Can anyone give me any information on any current maternity services available in Somalia run by midwives or nurses and what the statistics of maternal mortality and morbidity are like. Also what are the numbers of midwives currently practising as well as any information on education and training available to them.

Any info would be most helpful. Thanks..

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.

Sister Midwife, I believe such statistics is hardly to find about number of midwifes in Somalia.
And ofcourse there are training schools for midwifes along with nurses throughout the country, but there is no junction or association between them, and most of these schools are private and run by elder midwifes.

There are some midwifes whom get trained by humanitarian aid organizations like MSF but these trainings are only for those who work in their hospitals.

About maternal mortality, there is no accurate data but an estimation is available here
