Taking Care of the Mother  and the Baby While She is Pregnant

Prenatal care is very important. It can help make sure that the Mother and the baby will be as healthy as possible by following some simple guidelines and checking in regularly with your doctor

What will happen during prenatal visits?

during prenatal visits After you find out you are pregnant,Your first prenatal visit to u'r doctor will likely be when you are 6 to 8 weeks pregnant. Your doctor will probably start by talking to you about your medical history and how you've been feeling. You'll be weighed and have your blood pressure taken.you'll also have a pelvic exam to check the size and shape of your uterus (womb) and a Pap smear to check for abnormalities of the cervix (the opening of the uterus).Urine and blood tests and any Other tests wich may be needed.

How much weight should the Peregnant women  gain during pregnancy?and What to eat?

it depends but most women gain about 30 to 25 pound (11...13kg).but  If you don't weigh enough when you get pregnant, you may need to gain more. If you're overweight when you get pregnant, you may need to gain only 15 to 18pounds(6...8kg).and the most important things you can do for yourself and your baby is eat a balanced diet..

Call Your Doctor If...

Blood or fluid coming from your vagina
Sudden or extreme swelling of your face or fingers
Headaches that are severe or won't go away
Nausea and vomiting that won't go away
Dizziness
Dim or blurry vision
Pain or cramps in your lower abdomen
Chills or fever
A change in your baby's movements
Less urine or burning when you urinate
Any illness or infection
Anything that bothers you

Warnings

Don't smoke. Smoking raises your risk for miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight and many other problems.
Don't use drugs. Cocaine, heroin, marijuana and other drugs increase your risk of miscarriage, premature birth and birth defects. Your baby could also be born addicted to the drug you've been abusing, which can cause serious health problems.
Don't drink alcohol. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy is the major cause of preventible birth defects, including fetal alcohol syndrome.
Don't clean your cat's litter box or eat raw or undercooked red meat. You could get toxoplasmosis, a disease that can cause birth defects.
Don't sit in a sauna or hot tub. The high heat raises your risk of miscarriage and birth defects.

DaD Role During the Pregnency!!!

Fathers need to make the decision to include themselves in the pregnancy and birth. It took two people to conceive. When fathers take an active role they feel closer to their partners and become emotionally and psychologically responsible and involved with the life of their growing child.

Pregnancy and birth are a time of change and upheaval for men as well as women. Sometimes men's' feelings and concerns are overlooked because the miraculous and dramatic process of fetal development takes place within a woman's body. Obviously, this gives mothers a special relationship with their unborn babies that fathers cannot share. This can lead to men feeling sensitive and left out. Men need to know that these feelings are normal. Fear, worry and anxiety are common for most new fathers. They should be kind, understanding, helpful, considerate, and also connected to the developing baby. Well, as any father who has been through the process knows, these ideal attitudes are not always easy to sustain.

Becoming a father is a challenge and an opportunity. By being an active and involved father during pregnancy, we give our children the best insurance for a head start in life. Pregnancy and birth are the ideal times for fathers to initiate and build a strong bond with their children.

very intersting.... i worked in Maternity hospital this semester and it was kinda cool so  i just want to add that also Personal Hygiene and Nutrition are
very important in antenatal care.

As soon as you start thinking about having a baby, you should start thinking about what you eat. Begin loading up on the foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals, learn the five food groups and balance your meals. And once you do become pregnant, make good nutrition a priority. Talk to your doctor about the foods that will provide the nutrients important to your baby's growth, as well as to your own well-being.

While nutritional needs and your own tolerance for eating will change during the different trimesters of your pregnancy, there are some general guidelines that will be important to follow throughout the nine months. For starters, eat balanced meals, do not skip meals, eliminate caffeine and drink lots of water, six to eight glasses a day.

as for hygiene, the glands of the skin may be more active during pregnancy and the patient may tend to perspire more. Frequent baths or showers are recommended.
The hair tends to become oily more frequently during pregnancy due to overactivity of oil glands of the scalp and may require shampooing more frequently. The hair may grow faster during pregnancy and may require cutting more often.

It really helps pregnant women to have regular prenatal check up. I had prenatal check up for the entire 9 months and I can say that it helped me to be a healthy pregnant woman. I was thankful that I never had anything that bothered me during that time.
