Salaams

Findin this web page was such a luck wlh. Im somalian living in Finland, always wanned to become a doctor and inshaAllah I will.
Right now Im finding it difficult to get there but inshaAllah with alotta praying and hard work i will get there someday.

It would be nice to get to know fellow somalians who are applyin, studing or are allready doctors..
I dont think I wanna study here in  Finland because its both difficult to get in and it takes much longer to study here than in most countries. plus i would really love to get to exprience new stuff and take in a bit of adventure while studing by goin to new country and all. Its not like us somali girls get to live too exciting lives as it is eh :P

Anyways, glad to be here and waiting to get to know ya all inshaAllah ;D

Love your post tittle  ;D. I'm a Somalian who was born and raised in the US. Although my parents tried their best to teach me the language and the culture, I've only recently started truly feeling like a proud Somalian. I'm also glad that I found this website b/c it gave me something else to be proud about my people. If you don't mind me asking, what university year are you in and how long is medical school in Finland?

Salaams Phi!

I dont mind at all. Sadly im not even in yet, ive just started trying (applying). But inshaAllah my aim is to get in, in 2010.
The med. uni here takes 7years which after u have to work for 2years as a GP and then you can continue to specialise in whatever which will take from 4-6years so around 15years all together. One of the reasons why I dont wanna stay here and study.

Yes true wlh, I came as a baby to Finland and have been here ever since and because we dont even have too many somalis here its always kinda nice to meet/see our ppl and speacially learn the good in them.
And we should be proud, why not, and inshaAllah someday we will have peace in Somalia and be even more proud.  ;D

What year are you walaal?

Salamu 'alejkum to you all.
First I'd like to start of by apologizing if i fail to write grammatically right in English (or spelling wrong). I'd like to think i master the language but i don't.

My advice to you, is that our (fellow country neighbour) Denmark specially in Aarhus isn't that difficult to enter. But the language is danish and unlike for the Swedish its harder for u i guess. But there's also countries like Poland, Roumania, Czech. republic and Ukraine. It's 6 years of studies and all in English language. Alot of Somali brothers and sisters study there. Hope this info gave you some benefit.
Good luck with pursuing your dreams..I pray to Allaah subhanahu wa ta'aala that He eases your journey in reaching your goal. Allahumma amiin.

As I read the post and the responses to it, I like to make a suggestion to those Somalis in the diaspora who study or are successfull in business. I think it will be helpful not to isolate ourselves from our communities once we make a progress in educatin, business, or in any other good projects because you might inspire someone to emulate you. I know that we don't have enough time but 30minutes or one hour once in a while in places where the Somali young people frequent and talking to them might change some of them.

Keep trying and don't give up your dreams.I support a boy from a refugee camp in the North of Uganda (was rebel territory) and when he told me he wanted to be a doctor I felt that it was impossible. However we prayed and tried and he now is almost in his final year at the clinical officer school in Mbale. This school is a cheap way to get into medicine. It's a three year course run by the Ugandan government.
