If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Child Protection Specialist (OVC Care & Support), L-4 to be based in its Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

You will provide expert policy and technical advice, analysis and technical support to the UNICEF Regional Office and country offices, on policies, programs and legislative, operational and advocacy strategies on social protection and fulfilling the rights of most vulnerable children, including children orphaned or otherwise made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS (OVC).

Your profile:

Advanced university degree in social sciences, law or other relevant field.
Eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the development, implementation, management and evaluation of field programs, particularly Children affected by AIDS or Social Protection programs in developing countries, some of which should be in the East and Southern African region . Experience in policy development, management of policy implementation advocacy and community and social mobilization also essential.
Current knowledge of human rights, social protection and Children and AIDS issues, policies and international standards.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment with special emphasis on the cultural sensitivities of the region concerned.
Knowledge and experience with participatory methodologies; partnership development.
Possesses good facilitation skills.
Skills and experience in conducting rapid assessments.
Excellent analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
Proven ability to negotiate and build consensus with Government and civil society.
Ability to work in a team as well as to lead a team of professionals.
Ability to organize and implement training.
Knowledge of computer management and applications in analytical programs and especially with uses of electronic networks for information-sharing and advocacy.
Fluency in English and another UN working language required. Knowledge of the working language of one or more countries of the region an asset.
