Asma:
Hi Geeljire I am from maraykanka and am seriously considering studying medicine in Pakistan. I was just wondering if you could let me know how you are enjoying the course and what subjects you study in first year (like is there a lot of chemistry/physics? or more human biology associated topics like genetics etc.) Also, what drew you to Pakistan and did it take you long to adjust? I would also appreciate any detailed information about the curriculum for 1st/2nd year. I appreciate that you are offering your help and you can get back to me on this post. Thanks again, I look forward to hearing from you
Geeljire:
Hi Asma
Good to hear from a potential student Asma. It would be nice to have some more Somali students here from the Maraykanka. The majority of Somali students here are from Somalia , Arabta or Yurubta. The university does teach us in English though. It will take you a while to understand the Pakistani accent and the way they talk, but once done, you will get the hang of it. There is no biology or physics in the first year of M.B.B.S. Our biggest subjects are Biochemistry, Histology, Anatomy and Physiology. You also have embryology which can be difficult. Depends on you. You can get a more detailed look at the curriculum for all 5 years through the website for the university.
The town in which I stay itself is small and really quiet in winter. It is a tourist town and it comes alive in summer. I am still in my first year though this is my second summer here and it has been really good already. We are currently preparing for exams as well so not that much times to enjoy the good weather and other stuff.
I came to Pakistan because I could speak a little Urdu already and good value for money. The language is difficult and makes no sense in the beginning but stick with it and you will get better. The university does provide classes for Pakistani-studies in Urdu for 2 years.
I hope that helps. If any more info is needed, then just let me know!
Good lucky to all of us!!!!
Geeljire
