Mankay:
The types of accommodation available for students studying at the International Medical University (IMU) are the IMU hostel & private accommodation. The IMU hostel is located at the Vista Komanwel Condominiums, which consist of a few units in block B & C that we have rented from different tenants. Vacancies at the hostel are very limited due to the number of units available. Therefore, beds will allocated on first-come-first-serve basis. IMU Hostel

IMU Hostel Application Process
The Admission and Student Affairs Department will attempt to place late applications in hostel accommodation, which by the deadline, have not completed the formalities for admission to the university.
A copy of the hostel Rules and Regulations will be made available to students. Students are also expected to adhere to laws pertaining to Malaysia. These rules only represent a minimum code of behaviour expected of future doctors and pharmacists.

For further information on the IMU hostel, please contact:

Private Accommodation
Besides the IMU hostel accommodation, students have an option for other accommodation i.e. private accommodation. Students could either rent rooms from other IMU students or rent the whole apartment and share amongst their friends at the Vista Komanwel Condominiums. Rental can also be made from individual tenants or agents. The cost of rental currently offered by the landlords is approximately from RM300 - RM400 plus per room monthly and rental for an apartment is from RM1,000 onwards monthly depending on the landlord. The cost of rental is usually negotiable.
Vista Komanwel Condominiums are student’s choice for accommodation as it is just situated across the road from IMU. Vista A is located approximately 10 minutes walk away, Vista B is directly opposite our campus and Vista C is a 5 minute walk away. Alternatively, the Arena Green Apartments are situated approximately 15-20 minutes walk away. There are also other private homes (approximately 5-10 minutes drive away) located nearby at Taman Sri Petaling & Taman Bukit Jalil. The nearest township to IMU is Taman Sri Petaling where there are many facilities such as Carrefour supermarket, shops, banks, clinics, hotel, restaurants, post office, dentists, laundries and many others.

The Admission and Student Affairs Department offers assistance to new students by providing an overall list of private accommodation available upon request. This list is compiled from advertisements placed by students and tenants and it is being frequently updated. If you are interested in a private accommodation rental, you may contact the individuals/agents to make your own arrangements and negotiations personally. A book on private accommodation is also available at The Admission and Student Affairs Department for your reference.

Apart from the list of private accommodation available, if you require any updated information, please join our mailing list. The latest updates will be sent via email to all in our mailing list regularly, as and when there are new entries. Students in our mailing list will also be able to interact with each other for any accommodation arrangements e.g. to share an apartment, as the mailing list is sent as a group email. You can inform us via email if you wish to remove your name from our mailing list.

Mankay:
The IMU strongly encourages its students to be involved in extra-curricular activities. This is to ensure that the IMU graduates become healthy individuals with varied interests. At the same time, there is a need to ensure that student life in the IMU is safe, comfortable and fun.

IMU Student Association
University students are leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, they should learn to accept and discharge their responsibilities effectively; even as students. The Student Association is an elected body that represents the students and organises activities for the IMU student community. Student Association representatives allow the student body to express their views on matters which affect student life at the University, including academic and examination issues as well as student recreational and accommodation facilities.

Co-curricular Activities
The IMU students form their own societies and clubs to organise various co-curricular activities. These include the Adventure Club, sports clubs, cultural and language clubs, dance and music, photography and so on. An annual IMU event is the mountain trip to Gunung Tahan, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia.
Other annual events include the orientation of freshies, the IMU Cup, IMU Ball and Friday Night. The orientation allows freshies to feel that their seniors are their friends and that they are welcomed at the IMU. These annual events are important because they foster the spirit of camaraderie within the IMU.

A student lounge is provided on campus for various indoor games such as carom, chess pool and card games as well as for relaxation. There is a fully equipped gymnasium and a dance studio with sound system at the student lounge for use by all students. There is a games room for students to play darts and table-tennis.

Student Counselling
Experienced staff at the Department of Admissions and Student Affairs, and academic staff offer appropriate advice and counsel to potential students and their parents on various aspects of the University. In addition, information on the Partner Medical Schools (PMS) and living abroad are given by trained IMU staff as well as visiting academic staff from the PMS. IMU students can also seek the counsel of IMU academic staff at any time. The tutor-tutee system of the University where specific academicians are mentors to specific students is another mechanism of support for students.

IMU Alumni
Today, our graduates are either pursuing their studies in our Partner Universities in six countries abroad, or working as doctors or pharmacists in Malaysia and overseas. The IMU Alumni is established to ensure easy access and interaction among the IMU family around the globe. Communication is optimised through the IMU Alumni website @ www.imu.org.my for all alumni activities.

Dr Goh Hsien Ming joined the pioneer batch of medical students in International Medical College (IMC) in 1993.
