Description

The Sheffield IAPT service provides psychological therapies for people suffering from mild to moderate depression, in a primary care setting. The service has an excellent record of training, in partnership with the Sheffield University, high quality Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners.

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust is the lead contractor for this service, which is provided in collaboration with Sheffield PCT, and the Voluntary Sector Consortium. The Trust will be leading on the workforce development element of IAPT in conjunction with the University of Sheffield. This involves the development of a new workforce of low- and high-intensity therapists.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a major national initiative, which will fundamentally change the way in which psychological treatments are provided in the NHS in England. You will be part of a new multi-professional workforce that will significantly increase access to treatment for people with depression, anxiety and other common mental health conditions.

Trainees would undertake academic training, provided and accredited by Sheffield University, for one day per week and local training and supervision within existing mental health services in the locality for the remaining four days. The on-job training would include learning about, and providing under supervision, CBT-based self-management for clients suffering from mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression, using a stepped-care approach. All trainees will receive intensive supervision and support in their workplace as an integral element of their training. The traineeships will be based in Sheffield.

As part of this cohort of trainees, we welcome applications from people who, as well as meeting the criteria set out in the person specification, are fluent in Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic or Somali.

PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO CURRENT SHSC & PCT EMPLOYEES.

Interviews to take place w/c 12th July 2010.
