JOB TITLE: Family Planning Program Coordinator LOCATION: Twin Cities Metro
TYPE: Full Time / 40 hours DEADLINE: Open until filled.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To oversee the daily operations of the Somali Child Spacing Program, a grant-funded program that provides culturally appropriate family planning/child spacing health education to the Somali community and the health care providers who serve them.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Administration and supervision:
o Monitor program budgets
o Track progress of planned program activities against proposed timelines
o Maintain accurate and organized program records
o Maintain good relations with donor and partner agencies
o Adhere to reporting requirements as outlined by donor agencies
o Supervise 2 community health workers
o Supervise volunteers and interns involved with the program, as needed
• Programming:
o Coordinate Advisory Committee of key Somali community leaders, and engage Muslim religious leaders in disseminating child spacing information to the Somali community.
o Develop bi-lingual (Somali and English) reproductive health education materials for low literacy populations.
o Develop content and conduct in-person and online trainings for health care providers and social service professionals who work with the Somali community.
• Evaluation:
o Implement a program evaluation plan with project staff to track progress on project-outcomes
o Design appropriate tools for data collection
o Analyze data and write reports
• Provide content and technical assistance
o Review all program materials created for technical accuracy
o Keep up-to-date on research in relevant topics
o Attend key meetings related to health topics
o Present at local and state meetings about key program findings
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Domestic Programs Director.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in public health or health-related field, Master’s Degree preferred
2. Minimum 2-3 years of work or experience with community health issues
3. Excellent oral and written skills in English
4. Effective interpersonal communication skills
5. Able to work collaboratively with program partners and community members to plan and implement program activities
6. Experience designing and implementing community-based family planning/reproductive health programming
7. Keen interest in improving the health of the Somali community
8. Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations
9. Self-starter with ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
10. Ability to use computers and related software including word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, basic database management, presentation software, and internet-based tools.
