The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for 1 year. Further extensions will be based on organization needs, funding availability and satisfactory performance.

If successful, you’ll be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Somalia and Nairobi that works together to improve the health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and basic education of Somali girls and boys and protect them from violence, exploitation and abuse.

Purpose of the Post:
Under the supervision of the WASH Officer, the incumbent will contribute to programme planning, administration, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH program activities, data analysis and progress reporting relevant to water, sanitation and hygiene in Central and Southern Somalia (CSZ) Zone.

Major duties and responsibilities:

- Undertake field visits to UNICEF project sites, work with beneficiary groups, organize and conduct assessments as necessary
- Facilitate the strengthening of WASH committees to ensure sustainability of the hygiene and sanitation initiatives.
- Ensure that social mobilization, hygiene and sanitation promotion activities are carried out in a participatory manner with the beneficiary communities, making optimal use of existing community networks.
- Monitor the flow of supply and non-supply assistance to partners / local authorities. Draft supply and financial documentation. Collect and record information on supply/ non-supply inventory, distribution and utilization
- Investigate queries regarding authorization, delivery or payments and follow up with finance, administrative, supply and program staff on processing of payments, advances to partners and liquidation of accounts. Ensure that activities are in accordance with work plan of action.
- Conduct training in chlorination and community hygiene awareness promotion.
- Assist in the developing of appropriate messages and hygiene promotional materials to promote key aspects of hygiene behavior in consultation with project partners
- Communicate with counterpart local authorities and communities on project details. Recommend courses of action
- Prepare reports on project activities
- Prepare background materials for use in discussions and briefing sessions
- Undertake arrangements for visits to project sites for partners and authorities, which include providing information and briefing on project activities and status

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

- University Degree, preferably in public health or related profession
- Two years experience with at least 1year of progressively responsible experience at professional level in Hygiene and Sanitation program, public health or in related field.
- Good knowledge of computer systems and applications
- Good communication, analytical skills
- Training skills in participatory teaching essential
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
- Fluency in English and Somali.
