Civilians continue to bear the brunt of ongoing fighting in Somalia. The use of mortars and shells specifically, creates an awful lot of collateral damage. From 16-21 October 2010, WHO Somalia, with support from the Humanitarian Response Fund, organized at the Mudug Regional Hospital two consecutive training sessions for selected health workers of North and South Gaalkacyo and Greater Mogadishu. A total of 63 Somali health workers were trained in life-saving procedures, such as first aid, trauma management and emergency obstetric care.
