Why a man would become an OB/GYN Doctor?
« on: March 09, 2011, 06:19:04 PM »
Many women feel that visiting a gynecologist is mostly very personal and they feel shy while revealing about their sex lives, pregnancy, periods, infertility or even going for regular obstetrician gynecologist exams.

Most of the time women prefer female obstetricians due to religious issues. Muslim women may prefer female Obs/Gyn in order to preserve modesty. Thus, religious women may prefer female obstetrician gynecologist over male Obs/Gyn.

Others Say:
Male obstetrician doctor takes the female problem more seriously and listens carefully and does not trivialize anything where as most female ob gyn doctors tend to trivialize the matters owing to the fact that, they have gone through it themselves and does not listen very carefully to the patient!
Also some says male doctors are better secret keepers than female doctors!!!

What do you think?

Why did you choose or think a male doctor can specialize in Ob/Gyn?

Q. Should a female patient only seek a female Gynecologist?

A. If available, same sex health care providers are encouraged but, if not available and in life saving situations, "necessity overrides the prohibition" - a rule of Islamic Shariah.
The Muslim doctor shares with the Muslim patient the two main characteristics:
the faith in God and destiny, and the conviction that there is a cure for every disease.

Praise be to Allaah.
A question similar to yours was put to the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas, headed by Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him). It reads as follows:

I am a student in the faculty of medicine and next year we will be covering the subject of gynaecology and obstetrics. I want to ask the following:

(a)   Is it permissible for me to attend the practical classes in which women?s bodies may be uncovered?

(b)  Is it permissible for a male doctor to specialize in gynaecology and obstetrics, or is this only for female doctors?

They replied: If there is a sufficient number of female specialists in gynaecology and obstetrics, then it should be limited to them and it is not permissible for you to study it, or to look at the ?awrahs of women when training, whether that is examining them or doing surgery on them. But if there are not enough women specializing in gynaecology to do what is essential in this field, and there is a need for Muslims to specialize in it, then it is permissible for you to study it and you have a concession allowing you to see whatever you need to see to examine women and do operations. End quote.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa?imah (12/175)

And Allaah knows best.

Brother and sister,
I have planned further more Medical course MSc Obstetrics and Gynaecology, inshallah this program I will start sometime in next year 2012. I don’t want do  surgical work  and clinical examinations private part, but I am planning to specialise all reproductive Medicine such as infertility, and other disorder that effect male and female reproductive system. Not surgical work.
Obstetrics and gynaecology comprises the care of the pregnant woman, her unborn child and the management of diseases specific to women. Most consultants are generalists but the specialty offers a wide range of sub-specialties, which include materno-fetal medicine, gynaecologic oncology, gynaecological urology, reproductive medicine and community gynaecology.

Can I get you comment about this course, for me its important firm as somali we do have many problem on this firm, we dont have  any specialist on related program who can solve problems of our nations.
