Call for Expression of Interest for Participation in Capacity Building

Regional AIDS Training Network (RATN)
Regional AIDS Training Network The Regional AIDS Training Network (RATN) is a Regional NGO established in 1997 to facilitate the strengthening of capacity and skills for effective HIV response. RATN works in eleven (11) countries in Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region as a network of training Institutions facilitating collaboration on training activities related to STIs/HIV/AIDS. RATN?s Vision is: ?A Society with the capacity to respond effectively to the HIV and AIDS pandemic? RATN?s Mission is: ?To strengthen the capacity of relevant individuals, organizations and other stakeholders to respond to STIs/HIV/AIDS in the Eastern and Southern African region?. The primary rationale for establishing RATN was in developing the technical and management capacities to implement effective HIV and AIDS interventions. In order to achieve this, RATN functions as a catalyst or facilitator to strengthen the capacity of member training institutions and as a forum of exchange of good practices and experiences. RATN is currently made up of Twenty nine full members (29) Training Member Institutions (MIs) developing and delivering skills development courses targeted at mid-level STI/HIV/AIDS workers, trainers, programme managers and senior policy makers and four (4) Associate members . The broad categories of RATN MIs include (a) International NGOs; (b) National and Local NGOs; (c) Management Institutions; and (d) University Departments. While there are several international, regional and national organizations with training mandate in the area of HIV and AIDS operating in Eastern and Southern Africa, RATN stands out as a unique model due to the principle of networking of several training institutions to tackle systemic barriers to addressing training and capacity development gaps. This allows for cross-fertilization of best practices and tools for effective HIV training and capacity building. Key Areas of Activity ?   Training and Capacity Development ?   Knowledge and Information Management ?   Advocacy, Partnerships and Networking ? Research, Monitoring and Evaluation For a detailed listing of upcoming courses visit the RATN website www.ratn.org Geographic Coverage Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region

Call for Expression of Interest for Participation in Capacity Building in Results Based Management for AIDS Services Organizations in Eastern and Southern Africa

The Comprehensive RBM Capacity Building for HIV AIDS Service Organizations (RECABASO) project is a new and innovative initiative) aimed at utilizing best practices in identifying and addressing RBM capacity gaps among organizations implementing HIV programmes in Eastern and Southern Africa.

The RECABASO project strives to reinforce the role played by Results Based Management in improving the effectiveness of HIV and AIDS programmes. The project approach stresses that adequate capacity building and technical support is necessary in helping many ASOs release their potential. In this context RATN with funding from Sida launched the RECABASO initiative aimed at building RBM capacity for AIDS service organizations and community institutions implementing programmes towards achieving the public health Millennium Development Goals 4, 5, and 6 which are; to reduce child mortality rate; improve maternal health and combat HIV and AIDS, malaria, and other diseases

In Eastern Africa, the project will be implemented by Regional AIDS Training Network based in Nairobi, Kenya, in partnership with Eastern Africa Networks of AIDS Service Organizations (EANNASO), based in Arusha, Tanzania.

The project will involve AIDS service organizations and community institutions indicating specific RBM areas in which they need capacity building and how the need is linked to improved HIV services delivery. RECABASO teams of RBM experts will then follow up with detailed diagnosis of the RBM capacity gaps through site visits. The panel of reviewers will align the successful applicant organizations to best solutions that shall include experimental learning, internships, on-site mentoring and technical support and follow-ups. The beneficiary organizations from the capacity building processes shall then form online learning communities where they will continue to share their experiences on applying the new knowledge and skills.
