Consultancy Title: Midwifery Education Consultant
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

Location: Somalia - Hargeisa, Somaliland

In consultation with MOHSL, Somaliland Nurses and Midwives Association and other partners the consultant is to:
o Update Somaliland post basic and community midwives training curricula and produce a final copy of the two standard curricula through leading the task force for curriculum update.
o Facilitate the workshop for endorsement of the developed curricula.
o Develop midwifery regulations and standards, including codes of practice, codes of conduct, standards of proficiency, performance and ethics and fitness to practice.
o Standardize MOHSL job descriptions for post basic diploma and community midwives to foster optimal use of midwives skills (scope of practice)

Expected products:

By the end of the consultancy the consultant should deliver to UNFPA Somalia office, final one hard copy and one soft copy of the following documents:-
o Post basic one year diploma curriculum with the endorsement letter from MOHSL.
o Community midwives 18 month diploma curriculum with the endorsement letter from MOHSL.
o Document on midwifery regulations and standards, including codes of practice, codes of conduct, standards of proficiency, performance and ethics and fitness to practice.
o Standard job descriptions for post basic diploma and community midwives diploma graduates.

Qualifications and Experience

? Advanced degree in Midwifery.
? 5years of increasingly responsible professional and managerial experience in the field of midwifery education including at least 3 years in a developing country.
? Excellent knowledge of midwifery education, legislation and regulation, preferably in the region.
? Prior experience of working in multi-stakeholder environment including NGOs, bilateral and multilateral agencies.
? Demonstrated analytical, strategic planning skills, and capacity to work in teams
? Fluency in oral and written English; knowledge of Somali is an asset.

Type of Contract: Special Service Contract (SSA),
Period: Three month.
