Hello

Are there any mature students doing medicine in the UK? I wanted to know how hard or easy it is to get a place in medical school.

Cabmax, depends on your circumstances... are you graduate or not? if you're graduate and have achieved 2:1 in your science degree then you can apply to graduate entry to medicine which is 4-year programme. Many universities require you to sit the tests like GAMSAT, UKCAT etc. On top of that you do need work experience of more than 6 months in health care or similar.

If you are not graduate then you have to do the access to medicine course at some colleges and then apply to universities for the 5-year programme. some universities don't require tests like GAMSAT and UKCAT, while others do. check with individual institutions.

I hope that was help to you.

Cabmax, Garaad has practically answered your q'n mashalah.

Id just like to add that if you are a graduate with a BSc degree thinking of applying, then you stand a better chance of getting into the 5year course, not graduate entry. Simply because, the 4 year course is highly competitive, they have much fewer places available, and students with MSc's and phD's apply for it, so realistically unless your application highly stands out there's few chances of getting in. I think some uni's have only 44 places for their graduate entry scheme. But also bear in mind that some uni's (very few) do not accept graduates on the 5 year course, for e..g. St. Georges uni of London.

It is competitive, but not impossible insshaAllah if you meet their minimum entry requirements.

Hope it helps.

Graduate medicine is more competitive than Undergraduate medicine.
