EMERGENCY FIELD NUTRITIONIST ETHIOPIA CON/EN/EA

Concern Worldwide is an Irish-based non-governmental, international, humanitarian organisation dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries.

Job Title: Emergency Field Nutritionist Reports to: Health and Nutrition Coordinator Job Location: Addis Ababa, with frequent trips to field sites. Contract Details: 6 month contract (subject to appropriate visa approval from relevant Ethiopian government authorities) Unaccompanied Grade B

Job Purpose: To ensure effective CMAM interventions implemented in response to emergency needs in current and planned Concern working areas covering planning, implementation, and M&E.

Main duties & Responsibilities:
•Plan, organise and lead nutritional assessments as requested by Senior Programme management. Support and provide technical assistance to the current team in carrying out nutritional assessments in identified areas.
•Provide training to new and existing staff as required.
•Provide technical support to the team in CMAM and other related areas such as proposal and report writing
•If necessary, support teams in managing screening and distributions in the present areas of operation
•Develop nutrition response proposal, as and when required
•Support the decision making process on the continuation or closure of specific interventions
•Represent Concern at various technical meetings as requested
•Support and provide technical assistance for ongoing CMAM emergency nutrition interventions in the present programmes areas and any future interventions that may be commenced in response to deterioration in the nutritional status of targeted communities.
•Assist in development of future interventions.
•Support for any other appropriate duties that may requested by Senior Management

Person specification: Essential:
•Advanced University Degree (M.Sc./B.Sc.) in Public Health Nutrition with orientation in emergency nutrition (orientation in related survey experience an advantage but not essential).
•Experience of 2 years as a nutritionist in a humanitarian context and using CMAM approach.
•Excellent skills in spoken and written English
•Excellent skills in Word, Excel and in appropriate software for nutrition cluster
•Ability to work as part of a team
•Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and written, in English.
•Flexibility, adaptability, and patience
•Facilitation and interpersonal skills
•Analytical and problem solving skills
•Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines
•Ability to assess problems and recommend solutions
•Methodical and thorough
•Training and coaching skills
•Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences
•Awareness of gender issues
•Empathy with organisational goals
•Ability to motivate and develop skills of others

Desirable:
•Masters level in nutrition
•Previous Concern experience
•Extensive experience in conducting nutrition surveys, including planning, sampling, training, data collection, supervision, data cleaning, analysis, reporting and dissemination.
•Experience with SMART methodology, including software application with plausibility checks
•Software application (ENA-Epi/ ENA-SMART, or EpiInfo)
•Experience in use and interpretation of WHO child growth standards
