Organizational background

The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance relief, emergency school feeding, humanitarian air and logistics services, food coordination and emergency rehabilitation projects.

This position is only open to qualified Kenyan nationals. Female candidates in particular, are encouraged to apply.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Nutrition and overall supervision of the Head of Implementation, the incumbent shall perform the following tasks and duties:

Assist on program planning and design
Review proposals to ensure technical compliance with WFP/nutrition cluster guidelines and policies.
Be an active member of the Proposal Review Committee (PRC).
Assist Area Offices (AOs) in evaluating Cooperating Partners’ (CP) Capacities for implementing nutrition interventions.
Stay up to date with other agencies interventions in nutrition or related field to ensure sound integration of WFP supported projects within the wider context of the management of malnutrition.
Participate in field assessment mission including the design of data collection tools.
Assist on program implementation
Liaise with partners, AOs and other units to resolve issues and clarify or obtain additional information.
Undertake frequent field monitoring and on-site mentoring visits to ensure implementation procedures adhere to WFP guidelines and policies (including rations scale, admission criteria, data recording, and reporting protocol) and to improve Cooperating Partners capacity.
Maintain and update the selection’s Cooperating Partners reports database with monthly reports from health @ nutrition CPs sent by AOs. Liaise with AOs and other units in CO to obtain missing reports.
Review the quality of the monthly reports received from partners; liaise with AOs and partners for correction and improvements, Advise the head of nutrition on changes required in reporting system and/or formats and templates.
Update the section’s response matrix with information from CP liaison section on opening and closing projects (Field Level Agreement).
Process requests for basic data extraction and analysis from the section’s databases.
Participate in the capacity building of WFP staff and partners to implement nutrition interventions
Update existing training material in line with new recommendations and guidelines.
Ensure preparation and translation into Somalia language of training material as well as guidelines and information-communication-education (IEC) material.
Organise and facilitate trainings and workshops in the field as well as in Nairobi in collaboration with other units and AOs staff.
Perform any other duty as requested by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Secondary education, preferably supplemented by courses in the field of Health and/or nutrition.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressive responsible experience including at least 1 year at G5 level working in nutrition/health in humanitarian emergencies

Language: Fluency in both written and spoken English and Somalia Language is a requirement.

Knowledge:
Fully computer literate, knowledge of a nutrition statistical package (EPI info, ENA, Anthro 2006, etc) would be an advantage.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently with minum supervision, extensive travels to Somalia.
Aware of the latest developments in the area of nutrition and food security in emergencies.
