Role and Responsibilities

To set-up, manage and supervise the nutrition programme in Sool and Sanaag regions, and to provide technical support to national nutrition staff for the implementation of high-quality care in all projects. Also to anticipate, plan, and share in the development of new nutrition project proposals in collaboration with the Medical Advisor, Projects Coordinator (PC) and other partners.

Project Overview

Health, Nutrition, and WASH programme in Burao town, and rural southern Togdheer region, Somaliland. Start up of Health, Nutrition and WASH programme in Sool and Sanaag regions. Potential project include Emergency Responses and/or expansion of initial programmes into areas with critical needs.

Key activity areas

Nutrition Project Management

• Develop and manage comprehensive activity plans covering the time frame of the projects as set out in project proposals.
• Provide leadership to the teams regarding project objectives (planning and reaching).
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to Medair, donor and coordination bodies’ timeframes and formats.
• Develop new proposals in cooperation with the PC and Medical Advisor.
• Oversee all clinical expertise on site and ensure capacity building and knowledge transfer occurs at all levels.
• Provide input to the integration of beneficiary participation into all aspects of the project.
• Assess general or emergency nutritional situation, facilitate nutritional surveys when needed, and make recommendations for follow up and intervention strategies.
• Contribute in planning and carrying out of nutritional emergency responses. Logistics
• Prepare field orders in coordination with Nutrition Manager and Medical Advisor.
• Coordinate with Project Support Managers in Caynabo and Burao in order to ensure accurate communication with Nairobi logistics department and timely delivery of equipment and material on site.
• Responsible for supplying health facilities with necessary nutritional drugs and equipment in liaison with Logisticians and Nutrition Manager. Staff Management
• Support nutrition staff at Outpatient Therapeutic Programme and Supplementary Feeding Programme locations in Sool and Sanaag, as well as coaching national staff in their nutrition activities.
• Responsible for the line management and coaching of the Nutrition Manager, Infant and Young Child Feeding Supervisor, and the Nutrition Data Clerk. Administration / Communication
• Responsible for the reporting of nutritional activities (monthly, quarterly and final reports; donor and government reports).
• Develop and maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with the team members, upholding a spirit of unity and mutual respect.

Qualifications
• Diploma or Degree in Nutrition
• Master’s degree in Nutrition

Experience / Competencies
• Two years working as a Nutritionist in a humanitarian setting
• Able to motivate local community
• Flexible, able to work in an evolving environment
• Organized and works with attention to detail
• Personal awareness of own stress indicators

Medair standard working requirements for the field
• Experienced professionals in a relevant field
• Committed Christians and committed to the Medair values (faith, hope, accountability, integrity, dignity, compassion)
• Minimum three months of overseas intercultural experience
• Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
• Single or married (with no children under 18). If married, your spouse must also apply.
• Competent with Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Successful completion of Medair’s Relief and Rehabilitation Course (ROC)
• Reflect the vision and values of Medair when interacting with team members, local staff, beneficiaries and external contacts
• Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions
• Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit

Working Conditions
• The team house is equipped with running water and electricity supply. The house will be shared with 5-8 other International / Kenyan staff members.
