VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: MEDICAL DOCTOR WITH SURGICAL SKILLS

Médecins San Frontières Spain (MSF-Spain) is currently recruiting internally for the position of medical doctor with surgical skills, based in Mogadishu with rotations to Jowhar (up to 30%).

MAIN OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
 

In collaboration with the Medical Coordinator & MFP ensure thorough intervention and supervision of the clinical

management of patient care in the hospital / health facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
 
General Knowledge of MSF and Safety at work
Co-operation with the colleagues of own and other departments
Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures
Comply with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor for wearing protective gears (if/when applicable) related to the job for the sites.
Ensure all staff supervised by him/her complies with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor for wearing protective gears (if/where) related to the job for the sites.
Respect medical ethics at all times

OPD
Ensure that a regular prescription analysis is done.
Conduct   3rd level consultations on patients who’s pathological status exceeds the knowledge and skills of the OPD consultant

IPD           
In male, female & paediatric ward responsible for the treatment of surgical cases.
Do the medical round on a scheduled basis with nurses on duty
Prescribe treatment according to MSF guidelines and protocols
Supervise the dressing procedures during medical rounds
Supervise the admission and discharge of patients, prescription of medications and other routine procedures
Check on severely ill patients daily
Working together closely with the expat MD in the management of patients.
Identify training needs and perform trainings for staff when necessary
Ensure proper epidemiological data keeping

Management of staff in IPD and Surgical Department (OT)
Organisation of the IPD male, OT on daily basis.
Daily and long-term management and provision of support to the staff in the departments of responsibility; including planning of leaves, back up planning, overtime, HR needs.
To hold regular supervisory medical meetings:
Involvement of the staff in the planning, providing feedback of the past month achievements, and to regularly evaluate the achievements according to set indicators.
Support staff in their execution of activities, and follow it up closely.
Direct supervision of any nurses under him/her.
Supervise the clinical standards of IPD activities
Identify training needs and perform trainings for staff as necessary in collaboration with the other MD, midwife or the MFP.
Do the medical round on a scheduled basis together with the ward staff as this can be a good training for them – never do the ward round alone
Prescribe treatment according to MSF guidelines and protocols
Perform and supervise the admission and discharge of patients, prescription of medications and other routine procedures

Surgery and related issues
Consult and identify patients requiring surgery, emergency intervention and/or resuscitation
Lead the medical team of the Hospital/health facility in mobilising the staff of OPD and IPD to perform emergency medical activities in case of mass casualties
Perform life-threatening surgical activities including obstetric surgeries.
Supervise the activities in recovery care room
Prescribe the pain-management treatment according to the pain-level classification
Prescribe pre-operative and post-operative treatment according to MSF guidelines and protocols
Supervise all deliveries conducted in the hospital and identify those that need intervention
Contact the expatriates for any problem
Identify training needs and perform trainings for staff when necessary
Ensure proper epidemiological data keeping
 

REQUIREMENTS

Education   :   
To hold an official degree/certificate on medical training from a recognized national institute.
Is able to diagnose and treat the majority of the most common diseases.
Can perform surgical and medical technical procedures
Manage an inpatient facility.

Experience MSF and Other   :   
Experience in an MSF facility or in any other organization with medical background or
knowledge.

Languages   :   
Good command of English preferred

Ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people
Willingness to spend up to 30% of time in Jowhar
