Medair is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that responds to human suffering in emergency and disaster situations by implementing multi-sectorial relief and rehabilitation projects. Medair will be implementing a health and nutrition project in Karan Shibis and Hawal Wadag districts of Mogadishu. Medair is looking for the following staff member, to be based in our Mogadishu sub office.
Health Manager Responsibilities:
Health Management in collaboration with the local NGO partners
Ensure implementation of the project is according to and within project budgets
Engage and contribute to the accurate and timely reporting of activities
Contribute to the development of new proposals
Oversee all clinical expertise on site, ensuring capacity building and knowledge transfer occurs at all levels
Build the capacity of local partners to effectively coordinate with UNICEF and other UN agencies’ logistics department to ensure relevant project related supplies and equipment is available on site in a timely fashion
Ensure the appropriate management of medicines, health supplies and equipment
Staff Management
Support the nursing and midwifery staff in the health facilities
Manage training of health facility staff
Ensure health staff are adequately trained in Somalia & international guidelines within operational & budget constraints
Reflect the vision of Medair when interacting with team members and beneficiaries
Provide supervision to staff to ensure ownership and quality of health and nutrition activities
Ensure a clear and transparent paper trail is prepared for handovers and smooth continuation
Financial Management
Work with partner’s health staff, support staff to develop expenditure and procurement plans to guide implementation of approved grants. Support Field teams in implementation of these plans
Provide recommendations and interventions to rectify identified deviations that impact budget
Advise on budget development for field activities in conjunction with the health staff/partners and Health Specialist and Field Managers
External Representation
Represent Medair in WFP and UNICEF meetings and Health & Nutrition Cluster meetings
Ensure interactive programming with other sectors (e.g. WASH, livelihoods and food security)
Support the Health & Nutrition Advisor and Project Coordinator in the coordination of health and nutrition programmes.
Qualifications and Experience:
•Health professional with relevant qualification in medicine with speciality in Obstetrician ,Tropical Disease or Community Health Certification, Trauma Training
•Able to use EPI epidemiological software
•Clinical Skills within the PHC setting
•Strong training and facilitation skills
•5 years clinical experience
•Experience in training/mentoring staff
•Experience in setting up and implementing primary health care
•Experience in activity planning & time management
•Knowledge and experience of primary health care principles and management
•Able to prioritise clearly and oversee multiple tasks
•Able to take the initiative in project decisions
•Organised
•Clear communicator
•Able to keep minutes and draw up clear agreements with counterparts
