Background:

With support from GAVI HSS, WHO Somalia implemented a Female community based health worker’s programme with 200 FHWs recruited, trained in deployed in selected areas of three zones of Somalia. Recently, more funding was allocated to WHO to expand the programme to selected JHNP regions. As part of the planned activity, WHO Somalia is planning to hold TOT for FHWs master trainers using the previously developed curriculum in 2011. The master trainers will be nominated by MOH from three zones considering the master trainers who participated in FHWs training before.

Two consultants will be recruited for this purpose to facilitate the training in addition to updating the three curricula (FHW, Trainers and supervisors) based on the participants’ feedback considering delivery of essential health service package at the primary facility level and at community level.

Objectives of the consultancy

To train the Master Trainers from three Zones on the standard curriculum
To assist the master trainers to plan for the forthcoming FHWs training.
To review the training curricula and implement needed changes based on the participants’ feedback and inputs.
Outputs

32 Master Trainers trained.
Master trainers assisted to prepare three plans for rolling out the FHWs training in the three zones of Somalia.
Training manuals reviewed and changes incorporated.
Methodology

Participants and facilitators
The workshop will be attended by 30 master trainers from each zone, responsible for rolling out the training of FHWs and supervisors. In addition, WHO and MOH focal points for FHW programme will also participate. Two training specialists will facilitate the training using adult learning methodology.

2. TOT outline

The tentative duration of workshop is 10 days, with following agenda:

3 Module 2 (Maternal Health)
4 Module 3 (Nutrition)
5 Module 4 (Child Health)
6 Module 4 (Child Health)
7 Module 5 (Common Ailments, Hygiene Sanitation, First Aid )
8 Module 5 Screening , Mental Health
Module 6 FHWs- MIS
9 Module 6 FHWs- MIS
9 Supervision module
10 Planning for next level training and way forward

During the workshop, the consultants will get the feedback from participants and incorporate the agreed changes in the modules.

The Timeline

The consultancy period is from 15 April to 6 May 2015 (for a period of 22 days).
Review of existing curricula and plan for expansion; 3 days
Consultation with MOH and partners and preparation for TOT; 2 days
Training of Trainers: 10 days
Revision of curricula based on feedback during the TOT: 7 days

The Requirements
WHO Somalia will procure the services of two consultants (training specialists) who previously developed the training curriculum and conducted training of master trainers in Somalia.
