« on: October 20, 2015, 10:08:54 AM »

Dear healthcare professionals,

We are pleased to introduce 2 modules to you: Maternal Infections and Obstetric Fistula, which are developed by the experts from the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research (GFMER), Oxford Maternal and Perinatal Health Institute (OMPHI), the Maternal Health Task Force at Harvard University, and the Global Health Network.

About Maternal Infection
This course will address the global burdens, the effects on mother and foetus, diagnosis and treatment based on current evidence. The course also outlines areas that have insufficient evidence and suggesting a need for further research.

The course consists of five modules. In each module you will find a link to key documents and articles if you click on the reference button.

About Obstetric Fistula
Fistula is considered a disease of poverty, because of its tendency to occur in women in poor countries who do not have health resources comparable to developed nations. An estimated 2 million women in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, the Arab region, and Latin America and the Caribbean are living with this injury, and some 50,000 to 100,000 new cases develop each year. Fistula is almost entirely preventable. Its persistence is a sign that health systems are failing to meet women’s essential needs.

The last part of the Course is the knowledge assessment “Final Quiz”. You are invited to complete the final quiz. The participants who correctly answer at least 80% of the multiple choice questions are entitled to a course certificate from the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Oxford, Harvard Maternal Health Taskforce, The Global Health Network and the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

These 2 modules are free of charge and no registration is needed.

If you have already taken the test, you are encouraged to disseminate these course with your co-workers or friends.

Should you have any queries, please feel free to let us know. Thanks for your attention.
