In the past year, several companies hawking what they call an "e-cigarette" have cropped up.

The electronic cigarette looks vaguely like a cigarette but is in fact a portable vaporiser, so heats up what you put into it, but doesn’t burn it - hence no smoke.

Health organisations have urged health ministries to launch an investigation into health risks associated with electronic cigarettes, which allow users to 'smoke' nicotine without tar and tobacco.

A number of users have reported developing heart palpitations from using the device, which critics say can release too much nicotine.
