When bacterial meningitis is suspected, should you hold off on intravenous antibiotics until the lumbar puncture is performed?

as a general rule or rule of thumb we should not take sample from a patient who is on antibiotics, if that happens we should give the patient a recovery period ( a time in which the drug ceases to a very minimal concentrations in the patients tissues or plasma) .
So , I think it is the same thing here if we suspect that a patient has Bacterial meningitis we should hold off antibiotics until   the lumber puncture is performed.
