Officials at a Minnesota hospital said a tragic error led doctors to remove the healthy kidney from a patient with cancer.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that weeks before the surgery at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, the wrong kidney was identified on a medical chart. So even when doctors double-checked their materials during surgery, they were led astray.
The error was noticed by a pathologist a day after the surgery.
