I wanted to know about a common childhood disease that Somali people call
chadeeco (i'm not sure if i spelled it correctly).
some of its symptoms are: fever, coughing, blistering and inflammation of the skin, which results in bleeding.

Thanks Dr. kheyre! I should have looked at the website more thoroughly.
its just that my mom used to tell me that when I was  a baby that I got really sick and "almost died," I didn't know what she was describing in somali so I had a hard time figuring out what illness it was. However, it makes so much sense that it was measles! Now I can finally tell her that it was a typical childhood virus that children survive.

I have another question regarding measles. I remember my cousin, who grew up in Somalia, telling me that when she was around 12, she got jadeeco and what people do is slaughter an animal and put the meat on the person's skin...this would result in subsiding of the pain and itching of the rash. How does meat help to alleviate the rash?

Sister, welcome to the forums.

Meat does'nt elleviate the measles rash nor subside the pain, it's just traditional belif.

Few grandmoms do that!

LOL....placebo effect! I'm just going off of what she said...I've turned a new leaf, where I don't criticize things I don't understand (it took a long time to get here, lol).
Somalis have the most interesting remedies for various illnesses..the cure-all "burn-the illness away" has been the most popular method, as we all have seen the evidence on our family members.
