Required/Preferred Qualifications: 
*This position is represented by a bargaining unit; AFSCME Technical. Dues or fair share deductions will be made.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (MUST be mentioned on application/resume):
One year experience in health clinic or hospital interpretation.
Demonstrated skills in writing and speaking Somali. We provide language testing for all 4999 positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of University of MN (or other similar) Interpreter course or certification. 
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
 Essential Functions:
1. Provide voice/in person interpreting in all phases of patient involvement in clinic services, from registration through the clinical exam. May also include translating written material in clinical visit. (60% time)
2. Assist patients via telephone who need to schedule appointments, clarify provider orders, arrange for transportation to/from clinic. (20 % time)
3. Contact patients with or at the direction of providers and other care team staff, to explain orders, results, etc. (up to 5% time)
4. Provide reminder calling services for next-day appointments. (10% time)
5. Translate written materials into language for use of all patients. (up to 5% time)   

Program/Unit Description:
This classification has the responsibility to translate for patients in our outpatient clinic, as they move through the appointment cycle. Includes assisting patients with person-to-person language interpretation, may also include translating other written materials, in Registration, clinical exams (Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health), laboratory services, pharmacy services, nursing services.
