If successful, you¡¦ll be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Somalia and Nairobi that works together to improve the health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and basic education of Somali girls and boys and protect them from violence, exploitation and abuse. The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one year. Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance. Purpose of the Post: Under general supervision of the Child Survival and Development Specialist, responsible for the formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Health programme/project activities specifically the Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI) to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project management, delivery and accomplishment of project goals and objectives. Major duties and responsibilities: 1. Develop effective situation analysis, planning, strategy for the health program, specifically immunizations. Participates in the planning and development of programme goals, strategies and approaches for the UNICEF plan of actions.Implements and monitors activities in maternal, child health and nutrition as part of an integrated child survival and development approach. 2. Provide technical and policy guidance to line ministries and local authorities in the programme design, implementation with regular supervisions to identify bottle necks, needs and gaps. Implement and administer specific project within the ACSD programme that focus on achievements of UNICEF¡¦s programmatic priorities. 3. Provide capacity building and engage in active and effective advocacy with government and non- government stakeholders to generate strong support for sustainable health programs. Assist government and partners in planning and organizing training programmes for key program thematic areas for the purpose of capacity building of service providers, at all levels, to deliver quality health services. 4. Conduct monitoring and evaluation on specific Health interventions carried out through various field visits using standard data collection tools. Share feedback and pertinent recommendations with stakeholders to overahaul existing programme constraints and gaps. 5. Forecast, evaluste and analyze financial reports to ensure appropriate programme expenditures and financial deliverables. Certifies disbursements of funds, monitors and submits financial status reports. 6. Coordinates with the Operations/Supply staff on supply and non-supply assistance activities ensuring proper and timely UNICEF and government accountability. 7. Prepares programme/project status reports required for management, Board, donors, budget review, programme analysis, annual reports, etc. Qualifications, Experience and Attributes „h Five years of relevant professional work experience including field work experience. „h Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health, Social Science, or Medicine. A first university degree in combination with seven (7) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. „h Experience in organizing Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI) compaigns such as Child Health Days (CHDs), National Immunization Days (NIDs), Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT), measles etc. „h Background/farmiliarity with Emergency response and preparedness. „h Experience in monitoring program interventions that reduce in equalities an asset. „h Fluency in English and Somali languages (written and oral) required. „h Ability to communicate with tact. „h Ability to work independently and accurately. „h Ability to work effectively in teams and in a multicultural environment. „h High sense of integrity and Results oriented. „h Ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information. „h Computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications.
