If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Programme Specialist (CHEP) to be based in its Office in Jowhar, Somalia.

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Field Office, the Programme Specialist will lead programme design and implementation, evaluation of programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting within CSZ. The Programme Specialist will be responsible for managing a team of 5 national professionals and one project assistant and for technically and programmatically guiding the implementation of the CHEP programme in CSZ.

Major challenges will be to: (i) promote sustainable, community-based mechanisms for capacity development and participation, (ii) translate global protection policies and standards into practice for CSZ particularly in relation to rights based approaches to protection and participation; (iii) undertake advocacy with specific focus on efforts to further strengthen UNICEF's programming and response capacities in the areas of child protection, youth participation and HIV/AIDS prevention and control; (iv) redress the gender imbalance within communities and in relation to participation in decision making processes.

Your profile:

- Advanced university degree in the social/behavioral sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Public Health) with emphasis on community development.
- Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in programme formulation, planning, management and evaluation of multidisciplinary programmes.
- Knowledge of the latest issues, developments and trends in some or all of the following areas: emergency, human rights, child protection, HIV/AIDS, rights-based programming, community development and social mobilization, children in armed conflicts, humanitarian affairs and related areas.
- Versatility, judgment, maturity, ability to work in a team, cope under stressful and difficult conditions, political and cultural sensitivity
- Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate and execute ideas, as well as to transfer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
- Proven skills in supervision, planning and management
- Good analytical and negotiating skills.
- Ability to organize and implement training
- Demonstrated ability to cope with stressful and difficult conditions, and political/cultural sensitivity and work harmoniously in a multicultural environment with special emphasis on Eastern Africa
- Experience working in Somalia/and or in an emergency context is an asset.
- Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
- Fluency in English and another UN language required. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
