« on: August 12, 2010, 01:34:45 AM »
Is it possible to study medicine without previous classes taken in chemistry because i have never taken a chemistry class and i really have my mind set on medicine and nothing else? What university would except me and what class should i take? ( second year of alevels) what university would i be able to  go too and would i need to take a foundation course?

Yes some universities have a 6 year medicine+ foundationyear course for students who dont have the appropriate science background but it is a tough competition with usually fewer places available. Check this website http://www.uea.ac.uk/med/course/6mbms. Chemistry is not a pre-requisite.

By doing chemistry A-levels you will widen your chances into medicine. It might mean an extra year in college for you but, either way you would have spent an extra year doing a foundation course. Studying chemistry will definitely open up more prospects for you. You can apply to most UK universities on the 5 year medicine course and you will not need to do a foundation year. There is only one university I can think of that prefers Biology A-levels to chemistry which is the one in the weblink above, UEA.

Hope that answers your questions.
Pm me if you need further info & all the best.
