PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide strategic and technical leadership to the ENGINE program, ensuring effective implementation of the health and nutrition program, in line with best practice in the field, and aligned with the emerging needs of target community. Additionally, contribute to the expansion of World Vision’s organizational impact and health sector profile and influence on practice and policy through associated health related activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the overall strategic planning, coordination, and technical direction of the ENGINE program, including agency-wide nutrition activities related to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition in target communities Provide cross-cutting, strategic and program implementation direction to promote demand for key health and nutrition services— both clinical and community-based.
Work with the monitoring and evaluation officer to ensure the relevant performance and research data are collected and analyzed against program indicator targets Guide the implementation of ENGINE health and nutrition framework by providing strategic and technical advice to managers, nutrition program staff and partners in district Area Projects.
Carry out capacity building and on-the-job mentoring as needed to strengthen the technical skills and capacity of ENGINE staff in nutrition and health related issues Provide leadership and management support for the Health and Nutrition Program, including working with Zonal and Woreda staff to plan, supervise and monitor activities;
Compile and submit regular donor reports; monitor quarterly activities and expenditures against work plan and budget; and lead development of program plans, tools, and activities all being in compliance with USAID requirements.
Lead in the health assessment, design, planning, ongoing implementation and monitoring of health and nutrition programs.
Commission and undertake regular technical review of program activities and field sites.
Coordinate ENGINE program activities with other health and nutrition programs, in collaboration with technical advisors, to identify synergies and possibilities for integration of activities.
Technically approve program proposal, reports specialist ToRs, evaluation and survey methodologies.
Recruit and select health and nutrition specialist personnel in collaboration with the HR Department/ P & C Division.
Actively assist the Director in health forums, academic institutes and with other NGOs at national and international level.
Identify and develop operational research and publication opportunities arising from programs in collaboration with leading public health institutions where appropriate.
Participate in the development and delivery of the health aspects of strategy and other collaborative initiatives with leading public health institutions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required:
MD or master’s degree (Msc and MPH) with significant research experience in nutrition or related fields. · At least ten years of experience in each of the following areas:
Designing and implementing nutrition programs that include a strong behavior change communication component Guiding and providing technical assistance to project/host country government staffs working on nutrition programs especially around behavior change communication Developing and implementing a behavior change communication strategy for the program, focusing on creating demand for community and clinic-based health and nutrition services Developing behavior change training tools and materials Designing and implementing programs that deliver nutrition services, including management of acute malnutrition Developing and managing community-based health programs in developing countries.
