Location: Dadaab/Kenya

I. BACKGROUND on DWW

Doctors Worldwide (DWW) was established in April 2000 to provide medical relief and aid to those who are in need without any access or means to basic medical care. DWW will provide medical relief to all citizens of the earth in need regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity or nationality. In 2004 Doctors Worldwide-Turkey branch was established in Istanbul. Doctors Worldwide works on these three platforms to provide medical aid: Emergency Relief: DWW's emergency response team provides short-term urgent relief in the case of disasters, whether man-made or natural. Extended Medical Relief: After addressing urgent health care issues, DWW focuses on prevention of epidemics and outbreaks of infection due to poor hygiene and sub-optimal living conditions. Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Medical Education: This program involves providing long-term medical relief in cooperation with local doctors. Major emphasis is placed on assistance with the rehabilitation of societies no longer at war in re-establishing their health-care system. DWW is committed to providing medical education and training to local health care workers whenever possible.

II. COUNTRY PROFILE

With the failure of four consecutive rainy seasons, the impact of drought, hunger and disease is not only felt in Kenya, but throughout the Horn of Africa. Across the region, some 24 million people in need of humanitarian aid, up from 20 million earlier this year. Among them nearly five million are children under five years of age.

The short-term situation is urgent. Nearly 18.5 million people are in need of immediate emergency assistance and more are dependent on food aid. An estimated 250,000 cases of acute malnutrition in the region will require treatment before the end of the year.

On going Projects:
Life to Africa Project: this Project aims to help Refugees in Dadaab by distrubition of cooked food and food parcels. Health Center Project: DWW will establish a new health center in Dadaab for 6 months which will focus on Malnutrian and General Health issues for refugees and local people.

III. POSITION PROFILE

The Field Officer will be responsible of purchasing; equipment for Health Center, specific food contents in ‘Food Parcel’ and urgent needs. and also will responsible of storing them in specific Warehouses and follow the in/out-flow. He will also visit the Health Center every week to follow, to make a report and to modify logistic needs of the center. Field Officer will monitor, evaluate and report on all project activities. He is also welcome and meet to Volunteer Doctors who will travel to the area for examination in the Health Center every week, and support them whenever he is asked to. Field officer also responsible for following up of the materials and parcels which will be delivered by DWW in terms of food and send daily reports to the Programme Manager. Make frequent site visits to facilities to ensure that appropriate care is being conducted.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum Bachelors Degree in related areas. • At least 2 years previous work experience in a relevant position • No military obligation • Knowledge in Reporting, Accounting, Logistics are required . Basic Project Management knowledge and experience are desirable. • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, and flexibility in cultural and organizational terms. • Familiarity with international humanitarian operations, coordination structures and other NGOs • Profound cross-cultural awareness and insight into health care issues • Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources • Ability to integrate and work well within multiethnic and multicultural team • Ability to work well under pressure in harsh conditions, often in remote areas • Valid driving license • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel is desirable

V. LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical both in English and Turkish languages. Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and DWW-Turkey.

VI. CONDITIONS

There is a fully equipped liaison Office of DWW in Mombasa and 6 persons are already working. Salary defined by the DWW salary grid; educational level, expertise, hardship. Transportation costs covered, including additional return ticket+luggage allowance. Accommodation and transportation provided by the organization. The occupant of this position is required to work for long periods under physically and environmentally demanding conditions in remote areas. 5 days travel allowance every month. Regularly work in outdoor extreme weather conditions.
