OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To optimize WHO's technical advice and policy support to health authorities in Somalia.
Description of duties:
Under the direct supervision of the WHO Representative for Somalia, with the technical support from the Regional Advisor, EMP/EMRO, the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to the following assigned duties:

To act as a focal person in WHO country office to manage medicines related work through coordination with health authorities, donors and health partners in Somalia.

To provide technical assistance to the health authorities for development, implementation and monitoring of national medicines policy and action plan in line with WHO Medicines Strategy.

To establish mechanisms, in collaboration with health partners, for streamlining medicine supplies and their management both for emergencies and routine health services.

To build the capacity of the health authorities to effectively regulate the pharmaceutical sector in the country in terms of necessary regulations development and their implementation.

To develop the necessary links with the wholesale and retail pharmacies in order to involve them in better management of their supplies and build the capacity of the private sector so that they willingly comply with the national regulations.

To initiate a national programme of training and capacity building in the areas of medicine supply management; quality control; storage; dispensing; prescription and use of medicines in line with national treatment guidelines.

To promote the implementation of automated medicines management systems at various health care level.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
University degree in Pharmacy with a Master's degree in health related areas.
Skills:
Excellent presentation skills and excellent writing skills.

Experience:
Essential: At least 7 years experience combined at national and international level in the field of public health and essential medicine policies; preferably in complex emergency countries.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English with a good knowledge of another WHO official language.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$67,395 at single rate
US$72,373 with primary dependants   Post Adjustment: 33.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
