Khat Abuse Among Somali Combatants

  • Do you think Khat is consumed to suppress traumatic war-related memories?!
  • Do you agree that Khat is necessary because of the political conditions in Somalia

No I think Khat is just a traditional somali drug addiction. This is because people who have never been in wars and therefore do not have war-related memories use the drug excessively (especially in foreign countries). I also disagree that it is necessary because of the political condition because the drug doesnt have any beneficial sides and can therefore only aid in making the political condition worse as the fighters are only concerned with how to get the drug as they are addicted to it and are therefore will readily support and campaign by any warlord provided he is ready to provide them with either the drug or money to buy the drug. All in all i think somalia would be much better off without this drug (and without foreign intervention (if possible!!)).  :-\
