I think each somali family has such discussion once, should a girl get married after having Bachelor degree or work or get Master and PHD?what do you think :-\

Salaam Iman, I have had the 'TALK' from my family during my degree course and I am still having it as i undertake my masters, dont sweat it, you know us somali ppl always have opinions on everything. Just take it with a pinch of salt and say what i always say 'Inshallah'.

Asalamu A'laikum Iman, yea the famous "talk"...I think its fine to have it but what I do say is that it shouldn't stop you doing whats best for you. So, like just continue to work, or continue to be in uni doing your Masters or whatever and if something worth your while comes up. Alhamdulilah!! So I say; let the discussion continue but don't let it bother you too much. Qadr Allah. If marriage is meant to happen it shall, and if it isn't meant to...then it won't.

Exactly !! a girl should take every chance to develope herself and increase her knowledge but it might be difficult sometimes..... but such challanges make life worth living

What a girl should can be said as: Study, Marry, Raise Educated Children, and Continually help your family; I mean your parents & Siblings.

I think girls should have some level of education and it is investment for every family; at he end of the day the grass root of the family is the mother and she is the one spends more than 50% with the children so at least she can use the education rather than becoming dependent.
I do not agree women to be educated to have an EGO and have competition with her husband even if she marries uneducated man. My opinion most of the women find difficult to differentiate the duty as a mother and wife or as Educated person.

We are 21 century somali women should be up to date what is happening the world. And not to forget to fear Allah no matter where we are.?

Salaam, iam just not sure why the marriage topic matters in our community, sometime you can build ur life,
and find right man for ur self, if not then be single n happy! I always see so many somali single mothers y raising kids by themselves who dont have education or support so we us girls should think how we shouls live our life and not decided by ur family or community!

I think that Somali Girls Best thing to do, is to copy what Khadija and Aisha used to, Just first lear the Diin very well, and then marry with the consultation of your parents not alone, and then raise your children, Never think about going out and working like the men do, that is the new fashion.
