JOB ADVERTISEMENT POSITION OF HIV/AIDS COUNSELOR

Feed the Children - Kenya is seeking to recruit a HIV/AIDS Counselor who has a passion of working to save the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. Reporting to HIV/AIDS program Manager This is a one year renewable contract based in Nairobi.

Duties and Responsibilities of the HIV/AIDS Counselor will include the following:-
? Uphold and ensure Counseling code of ethics and confidentiality is applied to the clients.
? Facilitate HIV stigma reduction, reaching the affected members of the family including orphans in the homes and community.
? Provide information about AIDS and instruction for prevention to individuals, families, and children in schools as well as the general public in FTC?s areas of operation.
? Help individuals determine their risk of acquiring and transmitting HIV, and protect themselves.
? Help individuals undergo testing and encourage disclose their HIV status to significant others.
? Support and assist in recruitment of PLHIVs in the FTC- HIV program.
? Lead individual, family counseling sessions and support groups for those who are infected.
? Conduct adherence counseling to the PLHIVs on Pre-ART and ART.
? Counsel HIV affected families.
? Conduct Home visits mostly in the slum areas.
? Assess client referral needs and make recommendations during counseling sessions;
? Document all referrals made and prepare weekly reports of all clients counseled.
? Attend counselor meetings.

Qualifications: The applicant should have
? A Degree in Social sciences
? A certificate in HIV/AIDS counseling (NASCOP CERTIFICATION PREFERRED).
? Background and training in Home based Care will be added advantages.
? Has to be computer literate.
? Good interpersonal skills.

Additional requirements:
? At least 3-5 years? experience in HIV counseling in a health setting and/or Home based Care experience in the community.
? Be familiar with the current HTC guidelines.
? Proficiency in at least two local languages spoken in Kenya, but mostly Kiswahili language
? Willingness to work within the slums
