We seek qualified candidates for the following position:

Senior Laboratory Specialist, AFRO (Africa Regional Office)

Location: Nairobi

Ref. No. FHI- SLS-NBI

Working closely with the Asia Regional Office Global Laboratory Sciences Division, the Africa Regional Technical Hub, FHI Country Offices and others, to provide laboratory sciences services including technical assistance and capacity building initiatives to ensure and enhance the quality of laboratory services associated with FHI program and research areas.

In addition, to actively lead the identification, pursuit, and implementation of new awards in the Laboratory Sciences area.

Key Responsibilities:
Identify, pursue, and manage the implementation of new programs and awards in the Laboratory Sciences area.
Leads the development of technical assistance, laboratory strengthening and quality assurance/quality control materials and programs.
Responsible for the planning, conducting, and reporting of assessments, audits, and accreditation-ready inspections of clinical laboratories performing services to FHI research and programs.
Facilitate laboratory ISO 15189/SLMTA accreditation and mentor laboratories pursuing accreditation within AFRO.
In close collaboration with laboratory management lead the follow-up of needed corrective and preventive actions following audits.
Responsible for developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives upon request to build laboratory capacity and quality with reference to accepted standards and requirements.
Provide technical assistance to laboratories and others as needed and requested as part of overall capacity building and continuous improvement schemes.
Lead the preparation and delivery of laboratory trainings and training-related services.

Position Requirements:
BS/BA or its equivalent and 9-11 years relevant experience, MS/MA in public health or related field and 7-9 years relevant experience; PhD/MD or equivalent degree and 5-7 years relevant experience with international development programs and includes 3-5 years of supervisory experience, overseas field experience required.
Must have demonstrated ability and aptitude to implement laboratory quality enhancement and strengthening programs against accepted national and international standards and regulations.
Demonstrated creative problem solving skills including experience in training and mentoring staff and others.
