Title: Freshman Competition.!!!QUESTION (1)
Post by: Dr.Adnan on December 20, 2007, 06:50:44 PM
Asalaam

I have got an idea, that all students in first have a group reading and make our own contests.
for the contest I will begin it, its a biochemistry question, so you have to answer it, you have only five days, incase that first year students are unable to answer it, the way is open other medical students and doctors.
you can also publish your own question.
after the question is answered you have to provide full detailed explanation
.

The question

Oxaloacetate is an intermediate in the--------

A) conversion of glucose to Pyruvate
B)Conversion of Pyruvate to phophenolpyruvate(PEP)
C)conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate(PEP) to pyruvate
D)conversion of malate to Phophoenolpyruvate(PEP)

This is a very beneficial idea to fresh students and I welcome it. Since fresh students cannot participate in the cases in the group study this would be very helpful to them.

I think the answer to your question is option (B).

This is because the conversion of pyruvate to PEP requires the action of two mitochondrial enzymes. The first is an ATP-requiring reaction catalyzed by pyruvate carboxylase, (PC). Pyruvate is carboxylated to form oxaloacetate (OAA). The CO2 in this reaction is in the form of bicarbonate (HCO3-). The second enzyme in the conversion of pyruvate to PEP is PEP carboxykinase (PEPCK). PEPCK requires GTP in the decarboxylation of OAA to yield PEP.

This shows that OAA acts as an intermediate

Histology may be difficult but biochemistry is easy, especially ETC, TCA, PPP and all the delicious things!!! ;D

What about Anatomy?
