Hijra Somalia is a humanitarian and development organization that aims to positively contribute towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely affected by conflict in Somalia. Our work involves establishing clean and accessible water supply systems, basic sanitation facilities, promoting proper hygiene in internally displaced communities, In addition to providing these ‘life essentials’, we also distribute non-food-items such as blankets, sleeping mats, and plastic sheets. We also do work rehabilitation of agricultural infrastructure through training communities on best farming practices and furnishing small scale farmers tools and equipments.

Job Objectives: Developing and launching a comprehensive Public Health Promotion Program for Hijra organization. The Public Health Specialist will provide advice and work closely with the Executive Director and the current Public Health Coordinator in the field. He is expected to contribute the improvement of the current public health system. He is expected to have the knowledge and practical experiences of public health for humanitarian settings.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:- Assessing the effectiveness of Hijra’s current public health interventions and enhancing delivery methods to reach all segments of the Somali population with greater impact on outcome results
- Publishing appropriate messages for health awareness within the Somali community.
- Conducting researches in public health hazards for the displaced people in the camps.
- Designing and developing outcomes focused programs and interventions including data collection and evaluation process; delivers personalized health coaching services and other programs to participants as applicable
- Organizing training and development programs for Hijra staff and other organizations and government institutions like the staff of the Ministry of Health
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Facilitating the implementation of designated health programs; and monitoring the effects of health promotion efforts.
- Identification and assessment of health promotion needs with respect to assigned objectives utilizing qualitative community assessments, team members and community stakeholders
- Identifies and/or develops effective methods for conducting prioritized health promotion activities which enlist the coordination, support and collaboration of the local community
- Promotes community understanding, awareness and support for key public health issues and topics.
- Participates health cluster coordination meetings.
