Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for the management of the Somaliland health and nutrition programme, partly implemented in partnership with local NGOs. Ensure proposal objectives are met and services are delivered within the overall budget and meet Medair quality standards. Ensure availability and appropriate usage of necessary supplies for the project. Anticipate, plan, and share in the development of new proposals. Provide technical support to national Health staff for the implementation of high-quality care in all projects.
Project Overview
Medair is currently responsible for Health, Nutrition, WASH programmes in Cadale, Middle Shabelle, Somalia and in Togdheer region, Somaliland. Potential projects include Emergency responses and / or expansion of initial programmes into areas with critical needs based on new assessments.
Workplace: Based in Burao, Togdheer region, Somaliland (Occasionally working from Nairobi, Kenya)
Starting Date: May 2010
Contract Details: Minimum 1 year, 100%
Qualifications
• Medical doctor or registered general nurse
Experience
• 5 years clinical experience
• Experience in setting up and implementing primary health care
• 3 years management experience
• 1 year of overseas experience in humanitarian setting
• Aptitude for community mobilisation and capacity-building
• Ability to set clear objectives for national staff and coach/guide staff to develop their skills

• At least one year of professional experience in a relevant field (more experience preferred)
• Minimum 3 months overseas work experience
• Willing to commit to Medair for a minimum of one year
• Single, or married without children (or no dependent children)
• Strong English communication skills (oral and written)

• Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions
• Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit
• Successful completion of Medair Relief & Rehabilitation Orientation Course (ROC)
