CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development, through its strategic goal to reduce poverty by empowering women, enhancing access to resources and services, and improving governance.
We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of Nutrition Advisor. The position will be based in Nairobi and Garowe with frequent field travels to project sites depending on security conditions. The position is required for an initial six (6) months with possibility of extension.
Job Summary Reporting to the Emergency Coordinator, the Nutrition Advisor- Food Security will be responsible for: - • Ensuring the delivery of high quality emergency nutrition support for drought displaced populations .The Nutrition Advisor will work closely with CARE emergency response teams and local implementing partners for this emergency nutritional response.
• Providing technical support in the assessments of nutrition needs and capacities in target areas, while analyzing assessment data to provide clear recommendations in the emergency response using appropriate monitoring systems for the nutrition program • Designing appropriate nutritional interventions while ensuring that Sphere standards both qualitative and quantitative are considered and any deviations documented. He/she will ensure integration of other program components while ensuring that issues of protection, gender, livelihoods, are factored into the program design • While supporting the development and implementation of an action plan for the nutrition response, the incumbent will organize with the Procurement and Logistics Teams materials and support needed for all activities, so as to ensure timely and rigorous implementation of accountability mechanisms, through integrating M&E systems to support beneficiary accountability, donor reporting and CARE’s Emergency protocols, performance metrics and organizational learning. • Work closely with local nutrition partners to ensure accurate and timely monitoring of nutrition program activities and outcomes and should be able to provide an on-the-job training to staff and partners. He/she will provide regular nutrition updates to the Emergency Coordinator and CO ERT team on progress, priorities and constraints – verbally and in writing on an agreed frequency. • Work closely with the proposal writer to develop concept papers, budgets and proposals which will ensure longer term programming in relief and recovery.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS • Post graduate qualification (MPH, MSc) in public health, nutrition or related field including first-hand experience implementing CMAM • At least 5 years experience working in nutrition sector applied in emergency response operations • Experience developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for health and nutrition programs • Experience in nutrition surveys, including data analysis • Good interpersonal, communication and writing skills. • Good approach to/ experience in training and mentoring of staff and community actors: • Familiarity with key donor relevant regulations including CIDA, ECHO, OFDA ,DEC and OFDA • Familiarity with Sphere standards and Situation Analysis using the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC)
