Qualified Somali applicants are invited to apply for the position of Health Officer ? Malaria (Zonal Coordinator) based in Jowhar, Central South Zone. The successful candidate will be offered a Temporary Fixed Term appointment for one year. Further extensions will be based on organization needs, funding availability, and satisfactory performance.
Purpose of Post:
Under the guidance of the Health Specialist, the person holding this post contributes to the management, monitoring and planning of the GF malaria programme in CSZ. The person will manage activities that fall under UNICEF?s responsibility, will monitor the activities of sub-recipients and will participate in planning malaria interventions for CSZ. This person will work closely with a second malaria coordinator and as part of the Health & Nutrition Team.
Major duties and responsibilities:
1. Manage implementation of activities as sub-recipient: supplies and operational research
1.1 Supply management
- Ensure timely distribution of supplies to partners (health facilities, community level)
- Monitor malaria-related stocks and submit monthly stock update reports according to a set format
- Ensure that malaria supplies are included in overall Health & Nutrition partners PCAs
1.2 Operational research
- Facilitate malaria module in FSAU nutritional surveys including training on the malaria module and provision of supplies
- Support, coordinate and participate in any other operational research activities
2. Monitor sub-recipient activities
- Develop a monitoring plan of SR activities
- Carry out regular monitoring including field visits and spot checks of activities (such as of supportive-supervision visits, training, workshops, etc)
- Verify documents/reports submitted against actual activities
3. Maintain records and report on the progress of project implementation of all sub-recipients including UNICEF
- Review partner quarterly reports and supporting documentation
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports including supporting documentation
- Maintain files which will be subject to LFA review
- Support in the organization of zonal malaria quarterly review meeting
4. Communicate, liaise and plan with partners and UNICEF colleagues
- Participate to monthly malaria working group and quarterly coordination meetings
- Maintain close communication with the Health Authorities, sub-recipients and UNICEF colleagues
- Collate quarterly work plans and submit to GFATM Malaria Coordinator
- Facilitate visits from LFA, consultants and others involved in supporting the project
5. Manage PCAs and other documents within zonal office
- Draft PCAs and submit for review at zonal level
- Follow-up on DCTs
- Ensure that procedures and policies are followed
Qualifications and experience:
- Must have a University degree in health, social sciences or related field.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills are required.
- Five years working experience two of which should be in programme management, monitoring and evaluation

- Demonstrated knowledge of computer packages (word and excel)
- Fluency in English and Somali (spoken and written)
- Ability to work as part of a team
