Heshima Kenya is a nonprofit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya dedicated to identifying, protecting and empowering unaccompanied refugee minors, especially adolescent girls, through our specialized shelter, education and advocacy programs.

Heshima Kenya is seeking a Gender Based Violence (GBV) Program Officer to create and implement a GBV prevention and response program through community dialogue, trainings, and the facilitation of an emergency referral fund for at-risk refugee women living in Nairobi.

This one-year contract will build the capacity of Heshima Kenya’s community outreach program and deepen and improve the skills and knowledge of refugee community members and partner organizations about GBV and sexual exploitation.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for the overall management, planning, assessing and implementing of the program:
Assessment: Conduct assessment of existing services and its challenges that respond to GBV in the refugee community. Develop goals and implementation plans in collaboration with Heshima Kenya key staff.
Training: Design and produce training manuals and carryout training programs about GBV and sexual exploitation with 500 members of the refugee community.
Case Management: Provide essential case management services to refugee women who have experienced trauma or are at-risk for GBV and sexual exploitation.
Community Collaboration: Create a committee of community-based stakeholders to collaborate and streamline existing and new efforts about GBV and sexual exploitation awareness.
Publication: Produce a publication about specific challenges and community-based resources about GBV and sexual exploitation.
Reporting: Write and submit monthly and quarterly reports.
Program/Project Evaluation: Participate in the design and implementation of program and project evaluation.
Perform other duties as assigned in the implementation of program activities.
Qualifications:

Under Graduate degree in Public Health or Social Work with focus on reproductive health; advanced degree preferred.
5 years working in gender-based violence, human rights and protection required; background working with refugees preferred.
3 years working at the program management level, including leading or assisting with designing and implementing projects.
Working knowledge of Nairobi’s refugee community, specifically in Eastleigh
Kenyan citizen and fluency in Swahili, Somali and English strictly required; Non-Somali speaking candidates will not be considered; some exceptions made for candidates with fluency in Amharic or Oromo
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
