Some Shocking Statistics About Health in Somalia

72% of the population has no access to healthcare |
77% of the population has no access to clean, potable water |
An estimated two million people have been displaced or killed since the civil war started in 1990 |
Infant and maternal mortality rates are the tenth and third highest in the world respectively |
Around 500,000 people are currently threatened by severe food shortages |
Life expectancy is 44 for men and 47 for women |
Somali women are 22 times more likely to die in child birth than European women |
Somali children are 26 times more likely to die before their fifth birthday than children in the developed world |
More than one in ten infants die before the age of one |
Nearly a quarter of all under-fives (22.4%) die before their fifth birthday |
78% of the population has no access to health services |
There are less than 15 qualified doctors per million people |
45 women die every day during pregnancy or delivery |
The global acute malnutrition rate for the whole country is 17%
