Sahan Relief and Development Organization is non-profit charitable organization based in Ottawa, Canada Closing date: 04 Jan 2010 Location: Somalia - Puntland Sahan Relief and Development Organization of Ottawa, Canada is seeking a Medical Doctor to work in hospital in a town in the north east region of Somalia (Sanaag). This is a very safe and stable region that is under the direct administration of Puntland State. The Successful candidate would be offered a competitive package. The organization would also pay the cost of travel to Somalia from home country. This town is approximately 100 kilometers away from Bossaso, the commercial capital of Puntland. The locals are friendly and welcoming. Scope: The Medical Doctor will plan, organize and develop together with the City’s Health Committee & the hospital team the medical care at Badhan Hospital in order to improve the quality of the medical care. The Medical Doctor will act as an advisor to the hospital staffs who are responsible for the provision of health care at the hospital. He/she will also assist in the management and planning of the clinical work in the hospital. The doctor will also visit other areas in the Sanaag and Haylaan regions if there is an emergency situation that requires medical attention. Responsibilities: - Monitoring and providing general care to patients on hospital wards - To assess the need for medicines and medical materials in the hospital collaboration with the local health committee, and the pharmacist. - Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment Key responsibilities: The Medical Doctor main responsibilities include: - To perform emergency surgery - To provide curative care at Badhan Hospital - To make general ward rounds Requirements: - Current registration/license with relevant professional body as a medical doctor/general practitioner - A minimum of 2 years post medical registration work experience - Experience in Public Health, obstetrics, and gynecology - Minimum of three months experience of traveling and/or working in a developing country or similar environment.
