Position: Field Supervisor
Job site: Somalia, Middle Shabelle, Jowhar and Balad districts
Duration: 12 months from 1st of September 2011 to 31th August 2012- 6 days per week.

Probation period: 3 months
Reports to: Field Coordinator (immediate hierarchical administrator), Director of Jowhar Regional Hospital (immediate technical supervisor) and Area Coordinator Health & Nutrition – Nairobi (overall hierarchical monitoring of performance).
Supervises: Mobile teams staff and MHC/ SC staff
Collaborates with: Database Manager

Purpose/objectives:
The field supervisor, qualified nurse or medical doctor, is responsible for supporting the work of 6 Health and Nutrition mobile teams (three in Jowhar District corridor and three in Balad District), 3 MHC Centers and one Stabilization Center in Jowhar. He/she coordinates Health/ Nutrition activities and community awareness/ health promotion sessions. He/she is in charge of training and supervision of the mobile teams, ensuring that the overall projects are met. He/she is responsible for the correct collection of data by the field staff and ensures that these data are correctly and timely transferred to the Database Manager.
Responsibilities/ duties:
1. Monitoring regularly the activities of the 6 mobile teams while deployed in the field for five days per week (she/he will be following each of the teams for one week, switching from team to team every week)
2. Monitoring regularly the activities of three MCH and of the Stabilization Center (SC) for five days per week for one week every month.
-Specifically, with regard to responsibilities 1 and 2:
A. She/he will make sure that anthropometric measures are taken and reported correctly and that the distribution of medicines/ nutrients (plumpy'nut, etc.) and vaccinations are done correctly. She will constantly train/ retrain the mobile team staff during the outreach activities so that they can perform their duties correctly.
B. She/he will train and coordinate the mobile team staff in performing community awareness sessions/ health promotion activities for strengthening nutrition, feeding and family care practices.
- Ideally in 7 weeks he/ she will have monitored the activities of all the mobile teams and of the three MCH centres.
- In addition, she/ he will be responsible one day per week every week of:
3. Gathering and checking for consistency (i.e. that all the required information has been correctly reported) of ALL the data collected by ALL the 6 mobile teams and by ALL the MCH and by the SC during the week.
4. Transmitting weekly the data gathered on the field to the Data Manager to be included in the database. She/ he will also assist the Data Manager in transferring the information collected by the mobile teams and the MCH centres in electronic format.
Skills and competences:
- Nurse with proven capabilities (with experience in nutrition), medical doctor a plus
- Experienced in training staff in nutrition and health activities in the field.
- Experience in staging community awareness/ health promotion activities, experience in coordinating a small group of community mobilizers a plus.
- Good level of spoken and written English, Italian a plus.
- Attention to details.
- Computer skills (ability writing and responding to emails and of filling electronic Excel spreadsheets).
