ROLE, TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mediacl Doctor reports to the Hospital Director (Immediate supervisor) and the Health and Nutrition Coordinator (overall hierarchical supervisor); s/he also supervises the nurses and other technical / paramedical staff of the ward in which he/she is employed. S/he is responsible for:

• Examine, diagnose and treat patients in the Hospital according to the guidelines and available protocols and using the available tools/ instruments and medical drugs; • Act upon suspected or confirmed communicable diseases according to the protocols and inform the Director of the Hospital and the Health and Nutrition Coordinator; • Conduct evaluation and monitoring of all the activities pertaining to his/ her area of competence; • Coordinate the activities of nurses and other technical/ paramedical staff of the ward in which he / she is employed; • Set up appropriate strategies to be implemented in case of epidemics and other health needs; • Train on the job nurses, community health workers and paramedical staff on best medical practice in his/her area of competence and on Primary Health Care, Health promotion and MCH activities; • Gathering and checking for consistency (i.e. that all the required information has been correctly reported) of all the data collected during the clinical practice and ensure that these are properly transmitted to the Data Manager to be included in the database; • Contribute to the compilation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, activity reports and submit relevant information to the Hospital Director and the Health and to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator; • Anticipate changing needs and emergencies; • Refers and interfaces with the Nairobi’s staff with regard to the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the current clinical practice and of the impact on the beneficiaries of the activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS - Somali national, able to work in the Middle Shabelle Region. - Medical Doctor with proven capabilities (Minimum medical degree), specialization in internal medicine or paediatrics or surgery. - Minimum of 3 years of medical experience post-medical degree required. - Previous Hospital experience. - Excellent level of spoken and written English, Italian a plus. - Excellent communications skills, both oral and written. - Attention to details. - Computer skills (high level of capability in using MS Word, email, internet and of filling electronic Excel spreadsheets). - Excellent self-motivation and decision making skills. - Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently. - Extremely flexible, and able to cope with stressful situations and frustrations. - Ability to relate to and motivate nurses and other technical/ paramedical staff effectively.

DUTY STATION: Somalia DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT: 3 months STARTING DATES: February 2012
