Summer training in Moqdishu: How unsafe is it?
« on: July 04, 2010, 01:14:49 AM »
Asalamu Alaikum all ,
Im a 4th yr medical student in UAE , and i wanted to spend a month in xamar for experience and also that's where I plan to go once am done with my studies so i wanted to get acquainted and see what field i might want to specialise in inshAllah. But my question is to those med students/doctors currently in the city, I dont have any family or close family friends in the city, how safe is it for a female to come? I understand its not really safe but i mean how bad is it in hospitals and surrounding areas. I would realllly appreciate an answer asap jzk.

i'm doing summer training right now in Mogadishu and the fact is some areas in mogadishu are safe and some of them are not ..so it depends but for u it's better to stay with a family and in an area near to ur hospital

I think its really nice you want to go there and help people,  I want to do the same InshaAllah. Only thing you have to realise is , besides safety and parental permission, you dont know much as a student or intern and that I can imagine there not being any residecy/speciality programme's in place there. So you have to think about your career and what you want to reach InshaAllah.

I would still Imagine it to be brilliant experience with lots of hand on work you wouldnt get in the UAE ( I done an attachment in Dubai).

Pray Isitikhaarah and don't leave without a mahram!

Hope you are able to organise it and wish you well.

salaamu alaykum

You make alotta sense amran :) thnx sis. I agree with you , UAE clinicals are pretty much close to none, which is why im looking elsewhere. But your right somalia needs more of a capable doctore than a student. Ive prayed istikhara about it so final decisison is when my exams get over:) JazakumuAllah all of you , you were alot of help .

Salams

Sis Have u thought of peaceful places like Somaliland or Puntland  where u don't have to worry about safety and at the same time enjoy the  good old Somali environment ...........

sis sumaya to be honest with you there's no single place  in xamar is safe 100% but i can say you most of the big hospitals are some how in safe areas 4 example i work as pediatrician in Benadir hospital  and everything there is cool and safe .. Madina hospital (general surgery+ obs/gyn) is not that much far from our hospital..both of them they have high case rate..one last thing in order 2 work u need to be fluent in somali language :P

@ Dr. Adnan , yes i did think of hargeisa as i have some family members there , but I just wanted the emergency medicine of mogadishu since there's high casualty rate.

@Yaxye, thank you and I heard of these hospitals , oh and my somali is fluent just not the medical terms :) But yea inshAllah i'll contact you if i have more questions if thats alrite with you inshAllah. If it doesnt work out this year then inshAllah , in the next couple of yrs.
