Hennepin County seeks candidates who have completed a degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field, or who are designated as WIC Competent Professional Authorities, to fill two Spanish or Somali bilingual WIC Community Health Nutritionist vacancies. Employees in this role provide eligible clients in Hennepin County with WIC (Women, Infants and Children) services that include providing nutrition education, supplemental foods and referrals to other appropriate community resources. These WIC Community Health Nutritionist positions will assist in coordinating WIC services at seven WIC service sites located throughout Hennepin County.

Note: The regular work schedule for these positions is 8 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. These positions also require working from 10:30 AM to 7 PM four to six evenings per month.

The mission of the Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Department is to strengthen individuals, families and communities by increasing safety and stability, promoting self reliance and livable income and improving the health of our communities.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:
•Work at various WIC sites to collect and analyze the following intake data necessary for certification: medical history; dietary assessment; and anthropometric and hematological data. Enter information into the WIC database to determine WIC eligibility.
•Provide nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants at the appropriate learning level, along with developing high risk care plans for at-risk WIC participants.
•Refer participants to community services (medical and social service agencies) that can assist them with additional resources.
•Issue WIC vouchers for supplemental foods and schedule appropriate appointments for participants using a computerized scheduling system.
•Explain procedures for redeeming WIC vouchers and other WIC regulations to new WIC participants; distribute written information that new participants will need after becoming WIC certified.
•Attend staff training and meetings as assigned by team leader and program supervisor.
•May also perform site coordinator functions at WIC service sites, which include: communicate clearly with WIC staff and participants and service site contact persons; delegate appropriate tasks to other staff; organize site set-up, order supplies and coordinate service site flow.
Ideal Candidates will have:
•One of the following:
◦An associate degree or higher in nutrition, dietetics or closely related field.
◦Designation as a WIC Competent Professional Authority (CPA).
◦Experience working as a Locally Trained CPA(section 4.3.1 H).
•Ten or more semester credits in Nutrition, or Food Science and Nutrition, that include these classes: Human Nutrition, and Maternal and Infant Nutrition (or Nutrition in the Life Cycle).
•Bilingual skill in Spanish and English, or Somali and English.
•Ability to work effectively and communicate with individuals from a variety of cultural and lifestyle backgrounds.

•Working knowledge of nutrients and nutritional needs for infants, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women.
•Computer skills; ability to electronically access and input WIC data.
•Ability to work 10:30 AM to 7 PM four to six evenings per month; willingness and ability to work at various county locations throughout the week, some of which are not served by public transportation.
•Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies.
Selection Process:
•Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of education and experience.
•Successful candidates will be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check.
•Candidates must pass a language assessment to qualify for bilingual duties and pay.
