Date: 1 January 2011
Position: 3 (Three)
Job title: enrolled midwives
Duty stations: Gedo region Somalia.
Starting date: 1st of January 2011
Duration of the contract: 12 / with a possibility of extension.

. Human development concern abbreviated as (HDC) is humanitarian, nonprofits organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through primary health care, relief and development programs. Established in 2005 by volunteer health professional, the organization its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities of Somalia. By providing training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, especially, HDC answered to curb devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance. HDC acquired experience and expertise in field of access PHC. In the Gedo region Somalia HDC is currently implementing integrated prevention treatments care and support (HIV -IPTCS) –PMTCT funding GFTAM/ PR UNICEF.

1/ Program description:
This program is currently is phase one year two of global fund 2010-2011 . the current project funded by UNICEF/GFATM

2/ Objective of the program
The objective of the Human development concern (HDC) is to assist Somali people in strengthening the health sector contribution to achieving Universal Access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care. and effective organization and implementation of comprehensive care, support and treatment programmes, maternal and child survivors programme to achieve save delivery strategy

3/ Objective of the position:
The enrolled midwives are a key person who will:
- preparing for the counseling and testing.-all aspects of the delivery in the ward

4/ Keys responsibilities:
-Participates in a continuous nursing coverage on Wards/Unites by receiving reports and effectively handing over to in-coming shift.
-Keeps patients comfortable and ensures a healthy environment.
-Gives out treatment as prescribed and carries out nursing procedures.
-Carries out observations, keeps records and ensures their safe custody.
-Participates in doctors/clinical officers Ward Rounds.
-Receives patients, register admissions and discharges.
-Prepares patients for meals and participates in serving them.
-Ensures that aseptic procedures are adhered to in the preparation of sterile procedures.
-Carries out Health Education to patients and their attendants.
-Carries out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
-Undertaking counselling and testing during the labour.
-Participating delivery.

5/ Qualifications and experience requested:

Qualification: Must have Enrolled Midwife Certificate.
Other requirements
-Should have observation, judgment, counselling and communication skills
-Should have patient focused approach and a pleasant personality.
-Knowledge’s HIV counselling and testing

Experience:
-Minimum 4 years of experience in midwifery
-Minimum 2 years of experience within an NGO or similar Agencies
-Proven experience of working directly with communities
-Proven experience of semi-arid and pastoralist contexts
-Experience in team management and planning
-Proven experience in EMOC
-Experience of work in a security context is an added advantage
-Previous experience in the same area of intervention is an added advantage

6/ Person Specification :

-Good knowledge of health a methodologies and techniques in emergency humanitarian situation
-Understanding and interest in emergency obstetric care
-Team leader and coordination ability
-Ability to propose and put into action new ideas
-Ability to negotiate with communities
-Good communicator
-Excellent writing capacity
-Writing and speaking English and Somalia
-Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

-Somali nationality
-Calm and diplomat (security context)
-Good stress resistance
-Strong working capacity
-Strong taste for very challenging situations
-Sense of initiative
-Acceptance of harsh living conditions
-Acceptance of Security rules and Behaviour guidelines
