The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kenya serves vulnerable populations in the Turkana region and refugees in the Kakuma, Dadaab camps and in the Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The IRC implements programs in the areas of comprehensive primary health care, nutrition, protection, peace building, sanitation and hygiene and HIV/AIDS and prevention and response to gender based violence issues.

Applications are invited for the positions of:

Clinical Officer Ophthalmology, will have the overall responsibility for the daily clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients attending the eye health unit

Responsibilities:
Provide consultations at the eye clinic 6 days a week
Diagnose, manage and refer cataract cases appropriately
Increase community awareness to participation in eye care especially cataract identification and referral
Perform cataract surgeries and refer complicated cases appropriately
Take part in planning and participating in eye camps
Ensure that all assessments and treatment provided are properly documented on patients files
Maintain an accurate and updated records keeping system in the health unit keeping in mind that any significant changes seen with regards to cases seen in health unit should be reported to the Doctor in charge and other relevant authorities
Admit patients to the wards when necessary and ensure that M.O. in-charge is promptly informed.
Maintain equipments in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the same
Compile and submit quarterly inventory return/ requisition of all drugs and supplies
Qualifications:
Higher Diploma in clinical medicine- Ophthalmology
At least 3 years relevant working experience.
Experience working with a non-profit humanitarian organization.
Must be flexible, culturally sensitive and ready to work in difficult environmental conditions
Fluency in English, including writing clear and concise reports. Knowledge of and fluency in Somali is added advantage.
